Description

Description:

Not much in GalaxyMap except "This is the planetary nebula NGC 6842. "

New source of information: DeepSky Corner:

NGC 6842 was first sighted on 28 June 1863 by the German astronomer Albert Marth, independently on 26 August 1864 by the German astronomer Heinrich d'Arrest, and on 12 July 1866 by the American astronomer Truman Safford. Nature as a planetary nebula was discovered by Curtis in 1919.

Physical Properties:  It is a planetary nebula about 0.9 arc minutes in diameter.

Visual brightness ratings range from 13 mag to 16 mag.

The distance is 1380 pc (4500 light years).

Velocity-5.0 km/s ± 25.0 km/s

Expansion Velocity35.0 km/s (O-III)

Prior version in the Sharpless2 collection with the Stellarvue 130 and a CCD:

Sh2 95 HA RGB

Processing:

My C11 version is very similar to a version by Gary Imm using his C11 with the same "worms" or "spaghetti".

I set the target of about 16 HA and O-III images or I would be at this until Xmas given my seeing.  I went back and used Alex Woronow's NarrowBand Assistant for integration and to get the "True Color".  Processed with BlurX light settings to 0.05 on the non-stellar adjustment, NoiseX and then GHS.  Slight increase in saturation with GHS but the Color is Alex's.
